Ready, set, go!
alessandrastarr
Sunday Jasmine started hovering alone, and Tuesday she took three steps. She also learned to use her baby doll stroller to walk back and forth down the length of the house, and she's vicious with it. She hasn't completely lost her dependence on something to support herself, but she is doing really good and this is a lot early than we were told to expect her to walk.

The Life Quixotic
alessandrastarr
I've been meaning to post this for a while, better late than never (unless you are going to the airport and then you'd better be early.)

I bought Jasmine an Easter dress a week ago. It is really cute and I thought about waiting and buying it later, but they only had two in her size, so I was worried that they might all be gone soon. Now I just have to hope that they don't get something even cuter in.

We need to get our pictures taken again. We didn't get a chance to get Jasmine's picture taken at Christmas (and I don't mean with Santa.) And we haven't gotten our picture taken as a family since shortly after Jasmine was born.

I called the early intervention people again last Tuesday, it has been a week since I first called. We have an appointment on January 31st. They lady on the phone said that it doesn't sound like Jasmine needs physical therapy, just that she is slow in the physical area and that she is excelling in the verbal area. (She has over ten words and some times she will put words together, "okay, bye.") The doctor already told me all of this, so I'm not worried. The therapist will probably just show me some exercises to do with Jasmine, to improve the muscle tone in her legs.

I think we are not concerned by Jasmine's not walking, because she has improved. When she went to see the doctor at 13 months she was not standing at all. Nos she at least stands supported and is cruising around. She just won't stand on her own, and won't walk unsupported. My mother complains that we carry Jasmine too much, umm, no, that was you at Christmas time, remember?? (Well, I had to.) I rarely carry her at home during the day, and then its mostly to get her to her changing pad to change her diaper.

I've finally found cookies (that aren't from England) that don't have anything that Jasmine is allergic to, and they seem fairly easy to get. Now if I could just get her to eat them instead of throwing them around the dinning room.

My mother keeps asking when we are going to buy Jasmine her new carseat, umm, when we can afford it. Unless you're going to buy it quit asking. ;p (We bought the Britax Boulevard for $300.)

In other Jasmine news, still drinking from a bottle. :( I guess I should be more persistent that she use a sippie cup during the day, but since it still takes her two-three bottles of rice milk to get through the night I don't see the point. She does sleep better at night now. Jasmine's doctor didn't ask at her lst appointment if she was still on the bottle or not, and I didn't offer the information, because really I think I already know what I will hear, (OMG! She's still on the bottle!1 She's going to have to get braces!) 'Cause really, she's going to have to get braces any way. lordlymight has gaps between his teeth and I've had six teeth removed.

Jasmine now asks,"whaot dat?" (translation= "What is that?") Everything has to be pointed to now and the question asked. (Over and over and over again. It is a lot of fun.)

The quilt hasn't progressed very far, and I still need to finish Jasmine's ceiling, and repaint some parts of the wall.

I got an e-mail full of information for my high school reunion. It is $80 per person (for 1 day/4 hours. Ouch.) But I kind of want to go. We have until the 22nd of February to decide, so we'll see. What do you consider to be cocktail casual?

I got a new book called Writing Magic: Creating Stories that Fly By Gail Carson Levine. It is written to teach children how to write stories, and I will definately use it with Jasmine when she is older. It has some great writing exercises.

Edit: We sent out 73 cards (yes, they were late) and received 11. I think we'll be cutting the list next year.

Fruits and veggies

I forgot to write before, a mom in the Moms club mentioned Clementines this morning (but the way she went on and on about them you'd think she'd never seen one before), so while I was out shopping I bought a case for Jasmine. She ate three in a row! With the skin (not the peel) on!

I also got the Gerber's freeze-dried sweet corn today. I had gotten her freeze-dried mixed veggies (that included corn) from a different company before, but she wasn't interested in them and I ended up eating most of the package. But today she's eaten about 3/4 of the package of corn, right after eating the oranges.

I think this is the most she has self-fed in a day.

Santa is Thai?
alessandrastarr
The USB ports on my computer aren't working. There are a ton of pictures that I want to scan on the printer and upload from my computer, but I can't :( It also means that I can't print out x-mas cards.

We went to see Santa today at the Reno mall with the Carson City Moms club. Jasmine did pretty good. She didn't smile, but she didn't cry. Apparently that Santa is Thai, I couldn't tell (he told me because he was asking about me and Jasmine.) I'll scan the picture when my computer is working properly and let you all see.

lordlymight gets back from Alabama tomorrow night, but he has to work the weekend. I got his present bought and wrapped (yay me!)

I think we are going to leave for 'Vegas the night of the 16th (you know, our neighbors are probably going to think we are such Scrooges. I think our house is the only one not decorated right now, but we are never here for the holidays.) I still have to set up a time for us to get our pictures taken. They closed all the Wal-Mart studios here, and the Target here doesn't have a studio, so I don't know who to use that isn't ridiculously expensive.

I'm baking cookies tomorrow. We have a Hannukah party to go to Saturday, and lordlymight's unit's party to go to Sunday.

I think I only have 6 people left to buy for, Grandmother, mother, father, step-father, and G (K's daughter.) Not too bad, better than last year.

Well... I think that's all for now.

One year, one month, one day

I almost forgot to write about Jasmine's last doctor's appointment on last Wednesday. She is now 30.25 inches (73rd percentile), 19.5 pounds (18th percentile, she gained like 4 ounces in three months), and her head is 17.5 inches (24th percentile.) She got three shots.

The doctor's office tried to take a urine sample to see if Jasmine still has a UTI, but the bag leaked. I need to take her back tomorrow so they can check her again.

Jasmine finally started crawling on her hands and knees last week.

Over my dead body
alessandrastarr
So, we survived the wedding in Henderson. I can understand wanting to have it on the summer solstice, and I can even understand wanting to have in in 'Vegas, but having you wedding outside on the longest day of the year in one of the hottest places, WTF? It was 107 that day. Luckily the wedding was short and in the shade, but the poor groom and groomsmen were all in suits, tuxes, and uniforms.

Jasmine had her 9-month check-up yesterday, even though she is 10-months old, no shots this time. Her head is 17 inches, 17%, height is 30 inches, 94% where is she getting it from?, but her weight is 19lbs. 2oz., 41%. She was weighed in May at 18lbs. 5oz. so she hasn't gained a full pound in almost two months? The doctor didn't seem concerned, but I worry if it is because she isn't getting as much breast milk as she used to.

Jasmine is either having a problem with the smoke from the fires here, or has a cold. Right now I think it is a cold. This is the first time she has gotten sick. Poor girl is so miserable.

3 things you WILL do in this lifetime:

1. Finish writing a book.
2. De-clutter our house.
3. Take Jasmine to see where I was born.

3 songs with lyrics that have made you cry:

I can't actually think of any.

3 TV shows you enjoy watching (old or new):

1. Firefly
We don't have cable, and only get two local stations, one in Spanish, so my television viewing is nonexistent.

Dreams you once upon a time had, but that haven't come true and you're okay with that:

1. Being "discovered" in L.A. (who doesn't have this dream?)
2. Having friends stay together.
3. Finishing craft projects.

3 places you go/have been where you found a sense of peace:

1. Turner Falls, Oklahoma.
2. Grand Canyon, Arizona.
3. My bedroom.

3 minor regrets in life:

1. Not studying abroad in college.
2. Not going to Korea to teach.
3. Not being more daring.

3 cliches or common phrases that you tend to believe are true:

1. You are what you eat.
2. Be kind to others.
3. Have fun.

Jasmine has two teeth now, she has had the second one for a few days. I'm trying to figure out all the things I need to ask her Ped at the next appointment.

I'm feeling a little depressed today. I talked to lady_rayven about what was all going on, and I feel a little bit better.

16 Things About Books

1 My reading habit declined significantly after I became a mother. I don't read as fast as I did when I was younger.

2 I prefer novels to short stories. Short stories seem to me, to leave a lot of unanswered questions.

3 The last book I finished: Mistral's Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton. I'm actually not sure why I still read her books, all the new ones belong in the erotica section.

4 What I'm reading right now: The Sisters Grimm: Once Upon a Crime by Michael Buckley. Great series of books for tweens.

5 My favorite book of all time: hmmm.... you mean I can only pick one??????? Favorite series for younger kids would be the OZ books by L. Frank Baum, for tweens/teens any of Tamora Pierce's books, and the Honor Harrington series by David Weber for adults.

6 When I was a kid, I was allowed to read whatever I wanted, and I will allow my kids to read anything, even though I will censor their movie and TV viewing. (If we have t.v., 'cause right now we only have two channels and one of them is in Spanish.)

7 I purchase most of my books. I am not opposed to libraries, I normally read my books over and over again.

8 I hope Jasmine likes books as much as I do.

9 I rarely rid of books. But since we have moved and most of our books are out now I am going to try to go through our books and get ride of the ones we will never read again. (To make room for more books!)

10 For my first Mother's Day I got two books! yay.

11 My absolute favorite children's books to read aloud to my kids: Umm... we started Rainbow Fairies, but haven't gotten to far. Jasmine's attention isn't very long right now. It was easier to read to her in utero.

12 The worst children's books to read aloud: Any fantasy book, probably, with hard to pronounce names.

13 Best childhood book memory: Going to the library and finding new authors that I still read to this day.

14 Worst childhood book memory: Any time I couldn't get the next book in the series, not because it wasn't available, but because the library just didn't have it, ever!

15 For some reason I don't like used books as much as new books. Probably materialistic of me, but I like my books to look new with no creases or tears.

16 I hate lending out my books, they are never returned in the same condition that they are lent out in. So, if I lend out any books now it is only for special cases or people.

My father brought boxes of my things when he was visiting. This is stuff I haven't seen in over three years. Wow, do I have a load of junk. Most of it is being thrown away, half given away and probably an 1/8th to be sold.

I must have saved just about every card or letter I had ever received. There are letters going back to 1996! There were letters and cards from people I had forgotten about, or have lost addresses to. I read some that I thought might be important, but even those I threw away.

I also threw away photos of people I don't remember.

Jasmine was only on the formula for about four days, it really did a number on her head. Her eczema is almost always worst on her head for some reason. Now it is mostly gone though.

I am trying to get a prescription for Domperidone right now, the Reglan is giving me problems. Low supply with some side effects, so time for something new again.

I got tagged by lordlymight

Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

1. My favorite Jelly Belly is Juicy Pear.

2. lordlymight and I were born 3 years and 355 days apart.

3. I used to play the violin and win contests, despite being mildly tone-deaf.

4. I can read Korean, but I couldn't tell you the meaning of what I read.

5. Because of laws, rules and regulations I had techniclly never lived outside of Missouri until 2001.

6. I'm getting divorced in 48 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, 6 days.

7. I like writing letters. I still have regular correspondence with an aunt, a great-aunt, and a friend from college.

8. I hate Jello, really anything with gelatin

A, B, C, D...

Aprons (Y/N): I really want a Korean style apron. I should have bought one when I was living in L.A., oh well.

Baking (Favorite thing to bake): I used to bake all the time. I started to bake again, and then we found out that Jasmine is allergic to milk and eggs. :\

Clothesline (Y/N): Not here. I used to use a clothesline when I was living at my Grandmother's house in Missouri, and some times used a clothes rack in L.A.

Donuts: I like the ones that are filled with either cream or custard.
E, F, G, H ...Collapse )
I forgot to mention last time that I am on Reglan indefinately for my milk

supply. We tried soy formula, and while Jasmine didn't throw-up, she did get a rash. I'm pretty sure that she is allergic to soy also, but doesn't seem to be as bothered when I drink or eat it.

We've given her a little bit of rice cereal in her bottle and she doesn't seem to mind it. Her allergist suggested it, because we know for sure she isn't allergic to rice. We also has started giving her some avocado mixed with breast milk. She ate a lot more of it than either lordlymight or I thought she would. purplefrog finally cleaned off the highchair you gave us! (and the exersaucer.)

I finally got to clean my kitchen yesterday, Jasmine was having a good day and I didn't have to hold her every other minute. Of course, my sink is full of dishes again.

Jasmine rolls to her back and stomach now, it makes diaper changes and putting clothes on her interesting. I'm hoping now that she is more active I'll be able to let her play and get some work/chores done.

My father visited for the weekend and suggested something amazing. He thinks that we/he shouldn't tell Jasmine anything bad about my mother. I wasn't planning to say anything bad about her, but he suggesting the idea was practically a miracle. He did try hard not to say anything bad about her on this visit, but somethings did slip out. Hopefully he'll have it down by the time Jasmine can understand.

lordlymight leaves in about ten days to go to warrant officer school. He'll be gone for six weeks. His mother is going to come and stay with me for a while, to help with Jasmine and to keep me sane.

Seven month girl
alessandrastarr
We went to Sacramento, CA, last weekend to visit M. I painted my toenails in anticipation of nicer weather :) My mother used to paint my nails, but she would never paint the nail right next to the skin, that used to annoy me a lot, I'd have to repaint them.

We went to both a Korean restaurant and a Korean store. So, we've finally found a Korean store, but its still two hours away from us. :\

We got a video camera, so I can film Jasmine while lordlymight is away. I'm going to try posting a video of her every Friday (behind a friends lock, sorry.) I have two from my cell phone, they aren't very good, but I'll be posting those first.

My father will be here in a little bit over a week. He's not staying here as long as he planned. He's being silly and he knows it. The fact that he'll be in the same state as my mother and her husband is getting to him. Having to drive through the city that they live in is driving him crazy. Oh, well. I still want to take him out for his birthday dinner, even if it won't be his birthday.

Today Jasmine went to the doctor for her six month checkup, even though she is seven months old now. She is 85th percentile in height and 64th for weight. Her weight is down from 73rd percentile at five months. She only had four shots this time, and did really good with them. Although she has slept most of the day.

Her eczema has calmed down a lot, but she still has it on the back of her calves, the top of her chest, and the worst on her head. I think if we could just get her to leave her head alone it would clear up. We see a dermatologist on the 3rd of April and go back to the allergist on the 10th.

I don't know when we'll start her on solids. My mother insists that she needs "real food" because "she's hungry." Whatever. Maybe we'll feed her something before lordlymight leaves in April, but she really doesn't need anything.

I'm sure there are tons of other things that I should be writing about, I just can't think what those things are right now.
